Authentic and Easy Mallorca Recipe.

I miss the morning trips to the Panaderias in Puerto Rico- to pick up fresh baked bread, a good cup of coffee and warm, just-out-of-the-oven pastries.

I am really missing the taste of Mallorcas, a sweet bread that is topped by a light layer of powdered sugar. Soft, fluffy, sweet and so delicious, they taste similar to a Hawaiian bread roll -but better.  This is the reason why we have decided to try and make them ourselves. We tried a lot of recipes out there and we saw a lot of videos but none of them were really that authentic taste that we remembered from back home; so we perfected our own recipe …it only took us a week ( and many failed attempts) but we finally got it.  So check out the recipe below, be patient with it -giving yourself plenty of time.  Enjoy this Authentic and Easy Mallorca Recipe.

Here is a list of ingredients that you will need to make the Mallorcas. Make sure that your ingredients have come to room temperature. It will help your dough reach that perfect consistency.

1 cup of sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

4 large eggs (room temp)

1 cup of milk ( room temp)

8 tablespoons of butter ( soft)

1/2 cup of water ( room temp)

2 Large Bowls

1 Spatula

Cling Wrap

Parchment Paper

1 Rolling pin

1 baking sheet ( not dark)

Whisk

Measuring Spoons

Measuring Cups

Stand Mixer

My husband and I have tested this recipe over 6 times in the last week. We tried other recipes and found that none of them were as good as this one. So, we hope you really enjoy making them.

MIX DRY INGREDIENTS

Add  5 cups of Flour into a large bowl, the 4 teaspoons of Instant yeast, 1 teaspoon of Salt and mix them well together.

WHISK WET  INGREDIENTS

Add 1 cup of Sugar, 4 Large Eggs ( room temperature), 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract, 1 Cup of Milk and 1/2 cup of water.  Whisk them together until the ingredients are all airy (little foamy bubbles with form).

Now its time to start adding the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix them well. Its time to add the butter a little bit at a time-about 1 tablespoons or 2 and mix. Repeat step until all the butter has been used and the mixture cohesively.  Cover the dough and allow to rise.

Here is the Recipe:

Make these with lots of love, crank up some music and be patient with this one. Giving them all the time they need to rise is the key to soft, fluffy and delicious sweet breads.

  • 4 tsp Rapid Yeast
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Milk ( room temp)
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 8 TBps butter ( 1 stick, soften)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 4 eggs ( room temp)

topping

  • 1 tsp powder sugar

Instructions

  1. MIX DRY INGREDIENTS together, START by adding 5 cups of Flour into a large bowl

  2. 4 teaspoons of Instant yeast,

  3. 1 teaspoon of Salt,

  4. WHISK THE WET INGREDIENTS in a separate bowl, START add 1 Cup of sugar

  5. 1 Cup of Milk ( room temp)

  6. 1/2 Cup of water ( room temp)

  7. 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract

  8. 4 large eggs ( room temp)

  9. NEXT, add butter to the flour and the wet ingridients and mix until all ingredients are incorporated. Make sure there is no flour on the bottom of the bowl.

  10. Place cling wrap on the bowl and allow to proof DISCLAIMER: YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL IT DOUBLES IN SIZE. THIS MAKE TAKE 45 TO 3.5 EVEN 4 HOURS. It depends how warm/humid/cold your kitchen is. Make sure you WAIT UNTIL ITS DOUBLED IN SIZE. This is probably the most important step.

  11. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

  12. Flour your counter top surface and pour the dough out.

  13. Knead the dough a couple of times, dusting a little bit of flour. Not too much and not a lot of kneading required.

  14. Roll out the dough until you have a 1 inch thick rectangle ( approximately)

  15. Now you will want to cut out 1/2 inch strips

  16. Roll each strip and twist roll into itself. Tuck the last piece into the bottom of the roll.(repeat this step with the rest of the dough)

  17. Place rolled and formed dough into a baking sheet.

  18. Allow the formed rolls to proof a second time for about 5-15 minutes.

  19. Lightly brush the tops with butter.

  20. Place in pre heated oven for about 17-20 minutes ( lightly golden on top)

  21. Wait until they cool.

  22. Sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar. and enjoy!
