LIGHTSABER HAND BUILT EXPERIENCE AT DISNEY WORLD
A magical time at Disney World starts the moment that you walk into the parks. If you are looking to have an epic experience then I suggest booking some magical experiences. MAGICAL EXPERIENCES are basically add-ons that enhance your trip to the parks…they can be anything from eating at a themed restaurant and building stuff to meeting your favorite characters. To see all of the experiences that we booked and our trip, check out this post: Booking Disney World Epic Experiences.
On this post I will be sharing our experience: LIGHTSABER HAND BUILT EXPERIENCE AT DISNEY WORLD, including details that don’t make it on the Disney website .
Lightsaber Hand Built Experience at Disney World
Savi’s Workshop – Hand built Lightsabers
This is an awesome hands on experience where you can build a custom light saber. Located in the heart of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World’s Hollywood studio, Savi’s Worshop is a must for Star War fans. Be sure to book your experience ahead of time and have valid Admission and park reservation for same park on same date, because it is required. Same-day reservations are not available at this time, but walk-ins may be accommodated based on availability for the day.
The experience area is limited to the builder and one Guest and at least one person in the party must be 14 years of age or older. Only the builder will be allowed to build a lightsaber; the guest of the builder may not build a lightsaber. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance and I highly recommend booking them asap because spaces are limited and they fill up fast. The cost is $219.99 (+tax) and a carrying soft case is included.
Savi’s Workshop – Hand built Lightsabers
Hilt themes selection and Cloisonné Pin
You will start by paying for your experience. Once that transaction is completed each builder chooses one of 4 available hilt themes and receive a cloisonné pin to identify your selection and a card. The card allows you access to the workshop.
We waited in line for less than 5 minutes outside. The cast members were very friendly and attentive to us and the kids. One cast member was even telling our kids jokes. We loved it. Once the wait is over we walk into a dark workshop. Each child can have a guest.
There are so many awesome details in this room, from dark & moody lighting to a lot of “stuff” placed in the room and a huge workshop table that has a designated space for each builder.
Soon after a Jedi master takes off his hood and starts talking to the group. Informing the group of the honor of building this custom lightsaber at this secret workshop and how they will continue the way of the Force.
First each builder chooses a Kyber crystal to the placed at the heart of the lightsaber -resonated to produce the efficient, powerful blade. There was green, blue, violet, red and each were described by the character that mastered the crystal color in their lightsaber.
Assembling your hilt:
Next, begin assembling your hilt—parts will be provided based on your theme and cloisonné pin. Each box of parts includes:
- 1 hilt
- 4 sleeves (pick 2)
- 2 emitters (pick 1)
- 2 pommel caps (pick 1)
- 2 sets of activation plates and switches (pick 1 set)
Upon hilt completion, the unused parts will be collected by the Gatherers and returned to Savi’s inventory. These are not included with your lightsaber package.
It was neat to see the kids each picking their hilt, sleeves, emitters, pommel caps and activation plates. I felt like the Gathers provided a great selection. The hilts are heavy and so are the rest of the parts. I was really impressed with the quality of the parts.
Connecting the hilt
Finally, the Gatherers will masterfully connect your hilt to a 31” lightsaber blade. This was pretty awesome, the assembly to the lightsaber was a lot of fun and the Gather’s were so helpful and friendly.
Lightsaber lights up
It was amazing to see the final product light up the dark workshop. Very inspiring as the Jedi feel ready for anything the galaxy puts in their path!
In the end I have to say the price is a bit steep, but the product is heavy and very legit. I loved that the soft carrying case was included at the end of the experience because it both protects it and allows for easier carrying. I would recommended doing this as late as possible in the day, because you are stuck carrying your lightsaber all day long. It does get in the way of some rides.
My kids loved the workshop but as a reference they are 9 and 11 years old. I would say this experience is for 7+ year old. Adults and Star Wars fans will really enjoy this experience. I loved the experience even though I was a bit hesitant about the price.
