I made Pastelillitos de Guayaba. These make me miss home so much.

Every summer we try go to Puerto Rico, mostly because we love it and secondly because we want to immerse the kiddos is our culture as much as possible. So when we go visit, one of our traditions is to drive to a Panadería and pick up a couple of amazing pastries for breakfast. This one right here is my fave: Pastellilitos de Guayaba

Crispy, air soft, guava filled pastry…oh, soo good. Since a global pandemic changed our summer plans I decided to bring the island taste to Texas. I made these at home and the results were amazing. From 4 simple ingredients I was able to bake a bit full of yum! Come on let’s learn how to make these…

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 pack of Puff Pastry dough
  • Guava Paste
  • 1 Egg
  • Powder Sugar
  • Granulated sugar

Once you have gathered all your ingredients, you are ready to start making these amazing puff pastries!

In a baking sheet covered in wax parchment paper place the puff pastry dough and cut into squares. I cut mine into 1.5 inch squares.  Then I placed the guava in the middle of the pastry and topped it with a piece of pastry dough. Once you do all of these steps you are ready for an egg wash. Simply beat an egg and brush it the pastry dough. Now they are ready to be baked.

place pastry dough on baking sheet.

add guava paste to the center of the dough.

egg wash the top of the dough.

Bake the pastry treats in a 400 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until they are puffy and golden brown.

I hope you try making these with the kids. They can get a little messy but I promise the results are wonderful and you will have lots of great memories in making them.
