Bookshelves D. I. Y & How it transforms a living room
BOOKSHELVES D. I. Y & HOW IT TRANSFORMS A LIVING ROOM
Our living room remodel is coming along sloooowly but beautifully. The bookshelves are finally done & they are perfect; definitely worth the wait!! The crisp, white bookshelves are perfect for displaying a lot of my seasonal decor. I also love getting inspiration from other bloggers and stylists and changing up the decor every now and then.
Clyde and I salvaged these bookshelves. They were brown, full of nails and needed a lot of work. But they were quality built, very heavy pieces and I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to love on them.
So we began the process that was re-finishing these beauties.
The first step, we removed all the extra wood pieces and all of the nails and screws. It was a long job and Clyde was very patient with it.
I would say this was one of the most important steps that we took during the entire process. Prepping surfaces for primer and paint are so vital. It will establish the foundation for your project. I am really glad we took time to do this.
At this point the biggest transformation came after paint. Because of how dark the cabinets were, several coats were required. I realize that not everyone has brown bookshelves that they are trying to salvage. But you can get a similar built in look using bookshelves from Ikea or even these that I saw on Amazon. I will link them up on the sidebar.
Once we had our bookshelves painted we lined them up, leaving spaced between them ( the size of the decorative molding we decided to use). We also used base molding, to give it extra character. Using molding to finish up the edges of these bookshelves, the base & the crown molding, really elevated the bookshelves.
My favorite part is styling the bookshelves for the different season’s during the year!
