How you can keep your Saltillo Tile floors clean and shiny

I have been asked on numerous occasions about my Saltillo Tile floors and how I take care of them + Keep them shiny and clean…at least that is what I attempt. So I decided to write this post about it; and share what products have worked for me and tools have worked for me. How you can keep your Saltillo Tile floors clean and shiny

I have Saltillo tile all over my house, in the rooms, bathrooms…they look spectacular in my Tuxedo kitchen, in my Moody Black Wall Entryway Glam Modern Living Room -every single room. I have to confess – when we first bought the house I was not too happy with the floors, but I have grown to love them for their beauty, strength and durability.  As a mom to a couple of active kids and a wild dog – who are constantly coming in and out of the house – I am very happy to have floors that can withstand the use and the wear and tear – and still look as good as they do.  Let me share with you my floor care routine.

MY CLEANING ROUTINE

The first step to keeping Saltillo Tile floors clean is to vacuum them daily ( or as often as you can).  Saltillo tile has uneven edges, it is part of their beauty but also what makes them accumulate dirt in the grout. Vacuuming will help with the accumulation of dirt.   I use an iRobot Roomba to vacuum my Saltillo Tile Floors and I also use a Dyson V8 Animal+ vacuum.   Click on the links to see and/or purchase products. HARD FLOOR CLEANER

To clean my floors I use a hard floor cleaner ( diluted in water). Use something that is powerful enough to clean your floors, but that will not damage their beauty. I have used the Shark Hard Floor Cleanser ( but this product has been really hard to find). So I recently switched to The Crown Choice’s Powerful Natural Grout Cleaner for Tile & Floor Cleaning…and I am loving the results.  To see my cleaning video on how I clean my floors for a before and after click here.

I clean my floors every four days ( more or less).  I spray The Crown Choice’s Powerful and Natural Grout cleaner for tile & floor Cleaning, on the grout. After about a minute I use The Crown Choice’s Grout Brush with stiff bristles and I hand scrub the grout. After I am done scrubbing I remove all the product with a damp towel. I hand rise and wash the towel and use it on the floor until the product is removed completely. Then I mop my floors. You can dilute this product in a bucket and mop your floors with your favorite mop.   I use the Shark Dual Cleaner, so I place the solution inside the solution bottle, spray and clean – all with one hand. It’s actually the time I can catch up on tests, emails and social media. One hand is all I need – the Shark Dual Cleaner does the hard work for me.

USE A GOOD POLISH FOR YOUR FLOORS

Once a month, after I have vacuumed and cleaned my floors, I use a gloss polish –  I feel like this add a layer of protection to my Saltillo Tile. It leaves my floors looking so beautiful and shiny – not a high gloss. If you are concerned with the high gloss, I will say that it does wear off. To polish my floors, I do use my Shark Sonic Duo Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner, I just spray the floor shining solution directly on to the floor -using a buffing pad ( which comes with the Shark Dual Cleaner) I buff/shine each tile.
