Summer is all about fun – family – backyard – gatherings and our family is all about hosting and entertaining our friends. So we dusted off the bbqs , styled our new out-door seating area, and sent out e-invites…we hosted a Texan style BBQ party. My husband Clyde was on the grill, making his notorious Pinchos de Pollo. Delicious chicken and veggie kabob’s that were marinaded with his secret seasoning blend. Then, they were grilled/smoked on the bbq, resulting in a mouthwatering and flavor-full dish. We had something for everyone… a veggie tray, a fruit salad, a bar cart with (non- alcoholic) drinks and a dipping sauce tray offering 3 sauces: French’s® Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce, French’s® Sweet & Smoky Barbecue Mustard Dipping Sauce, French’s® Sweet Buffalo Mustard Dipping Sauces. It was a lot of fun, so read on and get inspired for your next backyard gathering.
STYLED OUTDOOR SEATING AREA & DUSTING OFF THE BBQ
My second task was to start cleaning up my backyard, to get it summer ready. There were many details, the grass, the plants and of course the seating areas. This year I wanted the backyard to feel like our little oasis; the first step to achieving that was creating an outdoor eating area. Check out this post on How to Make a Table Out of an Old Door and how we crafted our own out door eating area. We also got outdoor furniture, plants and built a privacy wood fence.
ADDING AMBIANCE
This outdoor area feels so cozy and inviting. Adding potted plants to an outdoor seating area, really helps create ambience and makes the area look so much nicer. I have loved using Rosemary, because it is so resilient to cold weather. I also have Parsley, Cilantro and others herbs close by…they serve a double purpose. I use them for cooking and decor. Start with neutral colors, then add pops of colors with your pots, throw pillows and blankets.
THE BBQ
But let’s get down to it…the BBQ and The food. Clyde dusted off the BBQ, he loves using a charcoal grill because it gives his kabobs better flavor. Once he got the fire going we were ready to party.
Using boneless chicken thighs, he cuts them into cubes, places them on a skewer and seasons them. I asked him to share his secret seasoning blend, but I could not convince him to give it up yet…maybe some day
CHICKEN KABOBS / PINCHOS DE POLLO
Once the chicken kabobs were ready, we set up the table inside. Everyone brought a dish and the table was filled with yummy food that everyone got to enjoy.
Hosting tip: Ask your friends to bring a side dish that compliments what you are cooking. That way everyone contributes to the party and you don’t end up doing all the work.
We had a feast! I love the variety of food that we had to offer…some great healthy options. French’s® dipping sauces were front and center, displayed on a beautiful tray. Once everyone served themselves, they would proceed to dip their chicken kabobs or serve the sauce onto their plate to dip while eating.
French’s® Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce, French’s® Sweet & Smoky Barbecue Mustard Dipping Sauce and French’s® Sweet Buffalo Mustard Dipping Sauce – were beautifully set up so that everyone could scoop out their desired amount and choose their favorite flavor. I picked these sauces because they are made with no artificial flavors, no colors from artificial sources and no high fructose corn syrup & made with real honey. In addition French’s® dipping sauces are all mustard-based, they are sauces that add bold flavor without the bad stuff…and soo good for dipping our chicken kabobs!!!
My kids love dipping their kabobs in their favorite sauce. I love that they love the flavors and eat the food I serve them, its a win win for us!!
It really was a lovely afternoon. We grilled, we ate inside, and then we sat around outside enjoying the beautiful weather, while the kiddos all ran around in our yard. Beautiful, relaxed & easy entertaining!
