Self Packing Snack station

PLANNING, ORGANIZING, PURGING & REARRANGING

The first day of school is fast approaching, I have already cried over such a short summer break and we are jumping into back to school mode. Around here that means lots of planning, organizing, purging & rearranging. Getting things organized, planning great routines, purging old clothes/shoes/schools gear & rearranging a new self packing snack station, – are some of the projects we have been undertaking.

SELF PACKING SNACK STATION FOR THE KIDS

On a recent pinning session – for my School Lunches for the kids  Pinterest board.  I was inspired to create a self packing snack station.  As the kids get older, I have been trying to get them more involved in prepping  for themselves. Its a way of me empowering them, creating independence and getting them ready for a world – that will not do everything for them. As a mom, its hard for me to let go, hard for me to stop doing everything for them – however I have seen such growth and excitement come from giving them the chance to help and the ability to make some of their own choices.

OUR SELF PACKING SNACK STATION ROUTINE

I still remember Tyler’s excitement; he walks up to the pantry and says: “let me check out what you have been working on today, mom”. He proceeds to open the door and I explain that its a self packing station, in the morning he gets to select his snacks and pack it for himself. His reaction was spectacular: “we get to choose?!? Wow, that is awesome!!! It’s like in the cafeteria, where we get to pick the snack we want, I love it.”   For me that sealed the deal, melted my heart and I think I even felt that imaginary pat on the back ( in motherhood these warm and fussy feelings are far and few in between).

The kids place lunches boxes on the counter.

The kids get to pick three snack items.

For our family we found it easier to have our lunch boxes set up with snacks the night before; so we have made it part of our night time routine.   +You can easily do this in the morning as well -find what works best for you and yours kids.

Then they get to place their items in their lunch boxes.

The kiddos get the freedom to choose from the kids we provide, mom get to take one more thing off of her to do list. Let me share with you the resources I have used to make my self packing snack station. Hope that you give this a try, and I hope that it helps you get organized for back to school.

This is awesome! I love how you allow your children to choose their snacks, while staying organized at the same time. What a clever idea this is!
